Getting started with Vault and Exact

This guide helps you get started with installing and configuring Vault and Exact, our bundled backup solution for your reports and preferences.

Maybe you just purchased Vault, and you want to make sure your reports are getting backed up.  Or maybe you want to take a look at your settings, but you're not sure how.  Either way, this beginner's guide should set you straight.

Make sure you're on the latest update for TOTAL first!  Otherwise, you may not have access to the Vault interface shown below.

Part I — Install

  1. Open TOTAL.
  2. Click Tools, then Configure Settings.

  3. Click Vault, then Install Vault.  Note that Exact is bundled with Vault, and installs automatically.

  4. Enter your a la mode Username and Password on the next screen. Click I Accept if you agree to the End User License Agreement.  Vault starts installing right away.
  5. When this finishes, you're ready to configure your settings.

Part II — Configure

  1. Open TOTAL.
  2. Click Tools, then Configure Settings.

  3. Click Vault.  These are your Vault and Exact settings.  Even if you don't want to enable automatic uploads, you need to enter your a la mode Username and Password at the top (A), and a notification e‑mail (B).

    • If you want to enable automatic backups of your reports, check the box next to Enable scheduling and set the time in the Scheduling section to a time when your computer is normally on.
    • You can choose which specific folders you want Vault to monitor in the Watched Folders section.
    • Finally, to enable Exact, check the box next to Include settings, preferences, and databases during backup.
  4. Once you're done looking over the rest of your settings, scroll down and click Save & Close.

Part III — Upload / Download Vault Reports

Uploading

If scheduling is enabled for Vault, your automatic upload will run in the background at the next scheduled time.

To do a manual upload, simply click on the report(s) you want to upload in your Appraisal Desktop (1), then click Send to Vault (2).

If you want to upload multiple reports, you can select multiple reports before clicking Send to Vault.  Hold down the Shift key on your keyboard, then left-click on the first and last reports you want to select.

Downloading

To download a report from the Vault, you need to access Vault on the Web.  Once you log in, you can retrieve files directly into TOTAL as needed, or delete files to make space.

Part IV — Upload / Download Exact Preferences

Uploading

When you enable scheduling for Vault, you also have the option to Include settings, preferences, and databases during backup.  This box tells Exact to back up your TOTAL preferences at the next scheduled time.

To do a manual upload, click Start, [All] Programs, a la mode Vault, and select Backup Your Preferences.  Exact automatically gathers your preferences and uploads them to our servers.  After it's done, simply click Finish.


Downloading

To retrieve your preferences once they're backed up, click Start, [All] Programs, a la mode Vault, and select Recover Your Preferences

If you're using Windows 8 or Windows 10, you can simply begin typing Backup Your Preferences or Recover Your Preferences while you're at the Start screen and press Enter.

Part I — Install

  1. Log in to your alamode.com account here and click Download Products on the left.
  2. Look for Vault in your list of Products and click Download.  Note that Exact is bundled with Vault, and installs automatically.

  3. Run the installation file after you download it.  If you're not sure how to do this, choose your web browser from the tabs below: 
    1. After you click the Download button, choose a location to save the file (such as your Windows Desktop), and click Save.
    2. Then, press Ctrl + J on your keyboard and click vaultsetup.exe.

    Now simply follow the instructions in the installation wizard to complete the install.

    1. After you click the Download button, click Save File when prompted.

    2. Then, press Ctrl + J on your keyboard and double-click vaultsetup.exe.

    3. Click OK when the Open Executable File window appears.

      Click OK

    Now simply follow the instructions in the installation wizard to complete the install.

    After you click the Download button, simply click Run.

    Then, follow the instructions in the installation wizard to complete the install.

    1. After you click the Download button, click Save.

    2. Then, click Run.

    Now simply follow the instructions in the installation wizard to complete the install.

  4. When this finishes, you're ready to configure your settings.

Part II — Configure

Once everything is installed, you need to configure Vault and Exact.  They each have a Configuration Wizard to run.

To configure Vault, click Start, [All] Programs, a la mode Vault, and select Configure Vault.  The Vault Configuration Wizard automatically takes you through the process.  Simply click Next after reviewing each step.  This section of our Vault User's Guide has step‑by‑step instructions.

To configure Exact, click Start, [All] Programs, a la mode Vault, and select Configure Exact.  Then click Next to proceed through the steps.  This section of our Exact User's Guide has detailed tips.

If you're using Windows 8, you can simply begin typing Configure Vault or Configure Exact while you're at the Start screen and press Enter to launch the Configuration Wizard.

Part III — Upload / Download Vault Reports

Uploading

If scheduling is enabled for Vault, your automatic upload will run in the background at the next scheduled time.

To do a manual upload, simply click on the report(s) you want to upload in your Aurora Appraisal Desktop (1), then click Send to Vault (2).
