Working with areas

When sketching in TOTAL Sketch, labeling areas (first floor, garage, etc.) allows the measurements and calculations for that area to transfer into your report.

To define an area:

When you draw an area, you're prompted to choose what type of area it is.  TOTAL Sketch attempts to predict what type of area has been drawn, but you can easily adjust the type of area.

  1. While you're in a sketch in TOTAL Sketch, click the modify icon (  ) to enter Modify Mode.
  2. Click Tools on the upper left and select Setup Area Types from the drop-down menu.  Or, press F4 on your keyboard.
  3. Select the appropriate area type from the list of area types on the left and adjust the calculation properties if necessary.  Or, create a new area type.

You can also rename an area on the fly, or adjust other area settings using the Properties panel.

  4. Once you have selected the Area Type and calculation properties, click OK to save your changes and apply them to your sketch.  If you're adjusting the area settings using the Properties panel, simply continue with your sketch.
