Memory Requirements

To effectively use a Pocket PC with Pocket TOTAL, we recommend you have at least 16MB. This memory is used for both permanent storage and RAM. For optimal performance, it is recommended that you use as much of this for RAM as possible. That way, you could run other applications, such as the built-in spreadsheet or web browser at the same time you use Pocket TOTAL.

The setup program for Pocket TOTAL may require up to 2MB (2000KB) of storage space before starting the installation, but more is better. At a minimum, you should have 4MB of free storage space before setting up Pocket TOTAL. Typically, for most new devices, this is a non-issue as they come fully equipped with much more RAM than this, but if you experience problems on an older Pocket PC, you may need to reconfigure your memory settings. To configure this setting on your Pocket PC, do the following:

  1. On your Pocket PC, tap Start, then Settings, and then tap the System tab at the bottom of the window. Your system control panels displays.
  2. Tap the Memory icon to see how memory is allocated on your Pocket PC.
  3. Move the slider to the right to get more Program Memory (RAM) and to the left to get more Storage Memory. Simply make sure the difference between the Allocated and In Use items on the left are more than 4000 KB before installing Pocket TOTAL.
  4. Tap OK to confirm any changes you may need to make.

You can adjust this setting “on the fly” at any time while using your Pocket PC.
