Before you begin your scan using ScanToSketch®, enable Do Not Disturb mode on your device — phone calls or app switching ends the scan. Then, plan your scanning route to optimize scanning time and accuracy. It's best to reserve the longest wall or the wall with the most obstructions as the last wall so that you don't need to walk the length of it.

Check out the animation on the right for an overview of the process. You can also click the animation, or click the play button on the video below to watch the full best practices video.

Once you've planned your route and enabled Do Not Disturb mode, go to your first corner and follow the instructions below to begin using ScanToSketch:

  1. With the report open in TOTAL for Mobile, go to the Sketch PowerView, tap the ScanToSketch icon ( ) in the toolbar at the top, and select Exterior Perimeter.

  2. Raise your device slowly to aim the crosshairs at the corner at an angle that shows both walls, and wait for a steady green dot to appear precisely on the corner. Then, press the green Auto button ( ) to place a corner marker.

  3. Once you've dropped your first corner marker, repeat step 2 for each additional corner: Point your device toward the ground, move steadily to the next corner, raise and aim the device, and drop another corner marker. It's best to walk in a straight line, but it's okay to walk around obstacles.

  4. Once you've dropped a corner marker at the last corner of the property, press the Done Marking Corners button on the upper right.

  5. Choose whether you want to export your scan as a Closed Area or Unclosed Area, and then press Export To Sketcher to transfer the scan back to your sketch canvas.

That's it! Once you've exported the scan to your sketch canvas, verify the sketch as needed with public records, spot check or remeasure difficult areas, and then edit, stitch, and merge the elements of your sketch to fine‑tune it as necessary.
