If your Recent Responses database has become damaged, corrupted, or encrypted, it may prevent WinTOTAL from opening correctly and display a message like this:

Wintotal recents missing

Below are two of the most common ways to restore your Recent Responses database.  Click on the tabs to view each set of instructions.  Keep in mind, if your computer is infected with malware, we highly recommend that you take it to a local technician for removal before proceeding with this document.

If repairing the Recent Responses database via the Tech Support Assistant didn't resolve your issue, the next step is to replace the recent.mdb file.

This overwrites the damaged recent.mdb file with a new, blank .mdb file, and all of your Recent Responses will be lost.
  1. First, press Windows Key + R to open the Run dialog box.

  2. In the Open: field, type %WT%\Database\Backup and click OK.

    Run %wt%

  3. In the next window, locate the file called Recent.mdb.  Right‑click the file, choose Rename, and change the filename to "OldRecent".

    Rename Recent.mdb

  4. Press Enter on your keyboard to save the changes.
  5. Now, go to http://www.alamode.com/tech/files/RecentMDB.exe.  When prompted, choose to Run the file.  Depending on your security settings, you may have to select Run a second time.

    Run the file

  6. In the RecentMDB.exe window that opens, click Extract.  The window closes automatically when the process is complete.

    Extract the RecentMDB file

After replacing your Recent Responses database, try opening WinTOTAL again.  If you still receive an error message, please contact our support team for further assistance at 1‑800‑ALAMODE.
