By default, TOTAL Sketch doesn't automatically add area labels to your sketch when you close and define an area.  You can change this setting, though.

You can turn on area labels for just one sketch, or you can change the global default settings for every sketch you create.  Choose one of the panels below for instructions:

Change label settings for a single sketch

Follow the instructions below to change the label settings for just one sketch.

  1. In TOTAL Sketch, click Tools and choose Preferences.
  2. Click the Draw tab near the top of the window.
  3. On the right, check the item labeled Show area name and calculations.

  4. Finally, click OK.

That's it!  Your area labels now appear automatically when you close and define an area.

Change default label settings

Follow the instructions below to change the default label settings for every sketch you create.

  1. In TOTAL Sketch, click Tools and select Setup Area Types.

    Setup Area Types

  2. Select an area from the Area Type panel on the left and click Edit Area Properties.

  3. Edit all of your default settings for new areas.  Check the boxes in the Properties panel on the left to display the area name, perimeter, and/or area calculation.

  4. When you're finished, click OK on the Edit Area Type window, and then click OK again.

That's it!  Each new area you draw will match the settings you just chose.  These settings persist even after you close TOTAL Sketch.
