By default, TOTAL Sketch doesn't automatically add area labels to your sketch when you close and define an area.  You can change this setting, though. Choose one of the panels below to learn how.

Change the global default settings

Follow the instructions below to change the default settings for every sketch you create.

  1. In TOTAL Sketch, click on the gear in the upper right corner to open your Preferences.
  2. Gear for preferences

  3. Click the Draw tab.
  4. On the right, check the item labeled Show area name and calculations.

  5. Click OK.

That's it!  Your area labels now appear automatically when you close and define an area.

Change settings for specific area labels

Follow the instructions below to change how area labels are displayed for specific area types.

  1. In TOTAL Sketch, click Tools and select Setup Area Types.

    Setup Area Types

  2. Select an area from the Area Type panel on the left and click Edit Area Properties.

  3. Edit your default settings for the area.  Check the boxes in the Properties panel on the left to display the area name, perimeter, and/or area calculation.

  4. When you're finished, click OK on the Edit Area Type window, and then click OK again.

That's it!  Each new area you draw will match the settings you just chose.  These settings persist even after you close TOTAL Sketch.

If you chose to un-check Show area name and calculations, this also turns off any default area types you set up.
