When installing WinTOTAL on a Server 2008 machine, you may receive the following error:

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup

The SA password must meet SQL Server password policy requirements. For strong password guidelines, see Authentication Mode in SQL Server Books Online.

Server 2008

  1. Click Start.
  2. In the search box at the bottom type gpedit.msc (Group Policy Management).
  3. Click the plus sign to expand your domain name if necessary.
  4. Click Group Policy Objects and select Default Domain Policy.
  5. Expand the following sections:
    • Computer Configuration
      • Windows Settings
        • Security Settings
          • Account Policies
            • Password Policy.
  6. Right‑click Password Policy and select Edit.
  7. Double‑click Password must meet complexity requirements.
  8. Select Disabled and click OK.

This is the only way to disable Password Complexity in Server 2008. The local security policy cannot be used for changing password complexity in Server 2008.

These steps only apply to the default installations of Server 2008 and the Group Policy Management Snap‑In.

Server 2011

At this time Aurora's SQL instance does not work on Server 2011. We are looking into making adjustments so that Aurora's SQL instance will work in the future. However, TOTAL has no compatibility issues with Server 2011, so we invite you to download and use it. Learn more here.
