Signature appears as a black box when printing to PDF due to Windows update KB5000802

This document explains how to fix an issue that causes signatures to appear as a black box when printing to PDF as a result of the Windows update KB5000802.

Windows update KB5000802 is causing printing issues with various printing programs. We've received reports from customers that are experiencing an issue with their signatures appearing as a black box when printing to PDF.

We recently released an update for TOTAL that corrects the signature issue caused by the Windows update on 3/9. Make sure you've downloaded and installed the latest TOTAL updates.

To resolve this issue, simply download and install the latest TOTAL update, and then re‑sign your report.

To download updates in TOTAL, open the Appraisal Desktop, click Help on the upper left, and choose Check for Updates. If TOTAL is installed on a network, updates must be run on the server first. So, make sure you check for updates on the server before you check for updates on any workstations.

That's it! Once you've downloaded and installed the latest TOTAL update, sign your report and try printing your report again. If your report was already signed, remove the signature first, sign the report, and then try printing your report to PDF again.


If you're still experiencing an issue with your signature:

In rare instances, customers have reported that they are still experiencing an issue with their signature or seal overlapping and obscuring portions of the signature section with a white background. If you're experiencing this issue after downloading the most recent update, click the panel below to view instructions on how to download and install PDF XChange 3.0.

  1. Go to https://tech.alamode.com/files/TOTALPDF.exe to download TOTALPDF.exe.
  2. Open or run the TOTALPDF.exe file that was downloaded to begin the installation.
  3. Follow the instructions in the installation wizard to complete the installation, leaving all options at their default settings.
  4. When the installation is complete, open TOTAL's Appraisal Desktop.
  5. Click File on the upper left, hover over Print, and select Settings.
  6. In the Configure Printers window that appears, click the Configure PDF Printer drop‑down menu, and select PDF XChange 3.0.

  7. Click OK on the lower right, and close out of TOTAL completely.

That's it! Once you reopen TOTAL, print your report to PDF as you normally would.
