Moving WinTOTAL to a New PC
Revised 8/21/2007 LD1

Quite often, we're asked how to move WinTOTAL to a new PC.  You could do it the old-fashioned way by copying files from the old installation to the new or you could do it the easy way with the a la mode Vault, a product we designed specifically for appraisers to backup and restore WinTOTAL files and settings.

This document outlines the process moving WinTOTAL to a new computer.

To view specific steps for your needs, mark the option for your version of WinTOTAL. Them, indicate whether you want to use the Vault to simplify the migration or if you want to move everything to a new computer manually.  Steps for your selection will appear below after you mark your choices.

Mark Your WinTOTAL Version Backup With or Without Vault

While Vault is not required to successfully back up WinTOTAL, it's often the safest and best course for doing so. Vault automates the backup process by doing all of the tedious work for you and can be scheduled to do so behind the scenes. Often, appraisers who move WinTOTAL to a new computer with the Vault are able to save the time and frustration of performing a manual backup, which is inherently technical and can take some significant time to complete. If you have an Elite membership with a la mode, you already own Vault, so there's nothing else you'd need to purchase. If you're not sure if you own Vault or have further questions, contact our Vault specialists at 1-800-252-6633 or visit our Vault website at www.alamode.com/vault.

If you're considering the prospect of moving WinTOTAL to a new PC without the Vault, take a moment to look over the steps involved with that process. If you are uncomfortable with the process described here or do not feel confident that you can complete it, consider using Vault as an alternative OR consulting a local technician for additional assistance. Due to the complexity involved with moving WinTOTAL to a new PC without the Vault, our support technicians will not be able to assist you with that process.
