Handling XSite Login Problems
Document 7018
Revised 1/23/2008 LD1

There are a variety of different things that can interfere with your ability to log into your XSite. The most common problems are a result of firewall or antivirus software interfering with the login process, but corrupt Flash installations and incorrect browser security settings can cause these problems as well.

If one of the following is happening to you, this document has your solution:

  • After clicking Login, your computer beeps/dings or does nothing.
  • Or, after clicking Login, you get a "Javascript Connection Error"
  • Or, after clicking Login, the clock keeps spinning or is stuck on the Validating Login Credentials step.
  • Or, after clicking Login, you are simply sent to your site's home page.
  • Or, when you try to get to the login page, you get a Page Could Not Be Displayed error message.

Computer Beeps or Does Nothing When Logging In

These problems are typically caused by a pop-up blocker or "high" security settings preventing ActiveX controls like the Flash Player or the session cookies that store your login credentials.   Start by seeing if you can simply bypass your popup blocker:

  1. On your XSite Login screen, enter your Username and Password, hold down the Ctrl key and then click the Login button.
  2. If you still can't login by doing this, repeat the first step, but substitute the Shift key for the Ctrl key.
  3. If you continue to experience problems, consult your pop-up blocker manufacturer for instructions on how to safely enable pop-ups for your XSite. For your convenience, we've included links to a few of the more popular 3rd party pop-up blocker support websites:

If you're using the Windows XP pop-up blocker, you can prevent it from interfering with the XSite login process as follows:

  1. On the Internet Explorer Tools menu, click Pop-up Blocker then Pop-up Blocker Settings...
  2. In the "Address of Web site to allow:" box, find the URL for your product in the table below and type that into the provided box. Then, click Allow.

    Agent XSites *.agentxsites.com
    Broker XSites *.brokerxsites.com
    Appraiser XSites *.appraiserxsites.com
    Inspector XSites *.inspectorxsites.com
    Mortgage XSites *.mortgagexsites.com
    FlexApp 1003 *.flexapp1003.com
    Listings XPress *.listingsxpress.com

  3. Click Close to close this window.
  4. Now close any open Internet Explorer windows and attempt to log into the administrative portion of your XSite again.

Preventing Future Problems

If bypassing your popup blocker doesn't get you in or if you want to get rid of security warnings, you can add your XSite to Internet Explorer's trusted sites:

  1. Open Internet Explorer and type http://www.alamode.com/tech/files/trusted.reg into the Address bar.
  2. When prompted about whether you want to Run (Open) or Save the file, choose to Run (Open) it.
  3. When you receive a warning about not running this type of file when provided by an unknown source, click Yes to verify that it's OK to run the file.
  4. A message appears, confirming the success of the changes. Click OK to acknowledge them.
  5. In Internet Explorer, click Tools, Internet Options and then click the Security tab.
  6. Click the Trusted Sites icon in the header of the tab.
  7. Click the Custom Level button and scroll down to the Web sites in less privileged web content zones can navigate into this zone option.  By default, it should be set to Prompt.  Switch it to Enable and click OK.

    Trusted Sites Prompt
  8. Click Yes when Internet Explorer prompts you about changing your settings to save your changes and return to the main Internet Options window.
  9. Click the Privacy tab and then click the Sites… button at the bottom of the Settings section.

Note: If you do not have Windows XP installed, or your version of XP is prior to Service Pack 2, click on the Edit... button at the bottom of the Privacy window instead of the Sites... button.

  10. In the "Address of Web site" box, type addresses for the products you use as listed in the following table. Then, click the Allow button after each.

    Agent XSites *.agentxsites.com
    Broker XSites *.brokerxsites.com
    Appraiser XSites *.appraiserxsites.com
    Inspector XSites *.inspectorxsites.com
    Mortgage XSites *.mortgagexsites.com
    FlexApp 1003 *.flexapp1003.com
    Listings XPress *.listingsxpress.com

  11. Repeat the process for each of the following addresses.

    alamode.com
    certmail.com
    xsitesnetwork.com
[yourdomain].com (where you substitute your website address for [yourdomain].com)

  12. Click the OK button to close this window.
  13. Now, click Advanced and check the Override Automatic Cookie Handling box.
  14. Check Always Allows Session Cookies and click OK. Then, click the OK button again to close the Internet Options window.
  15. Now close any open Internet Explorer windows and attempt to log into the administrative portion of your XSite again.

JavaScript Connection Errors

This error message is actually an indication of a damaged Flash installation on your computer. If you're experiencing this error, see Tech Doc 7000 for specific instructions on how to resolve this problem.  You probably just need to uninstall and reinstall the free Flash player.

A Never ending Clock Stuck at Validating Login Credentials

This problem is caused by the interference of a firewall program on your computer. To work around this problem, you can temporarily disable your firewall to access your XSite. Ultimately, the best solution is to configure your firewall software to prevent it from interfering with your website.

You should now be able to log into your XSite. If you experience further problems, contact us at 1-800-211-4514 or via the My Support area of your a la mode account at www.alamode.com/myaccount.
