Athena Rollback Utility
Document 4999
Revised 3/23/2007 LD1

We've designed a simple wizard to help you "roll back" to Athena from the Aurora generation of WinTOTAL.

This document walks you through the process of reverting to Athena.

This document illustrates the process for rolling back from Aurora to Athena using our roll back wizard. The process is slightly different depending on your WinTOTAL installation. Refer to the corresponding section below for your type of setup.

  • Standalone Installations of WinTOTAL
  • Network Installations of WinTOTAL

Before You Begin...

The steps of this wizard will make all the files in your Aurora folders Athena-compatible as well as convert databases - even changes made since installing Aurora - to an Athena compatible format.  Before you get started, please note the following:

  • While the process should be relatively seamless, it's always a good idea to back up your software and files before performing major changes on your computer. The likelihood is that the reversion process will go through without incident, but as with any installation/uninstallation process, there's always a slight possibility that a 3rd party program, like a firewall, might prevent the rollback utility from completing some of the necessary steps during the reversion process. For more information about backing up your WinTOTAL software and files, see Moving WinTOTAL to a new PC.
  • At the end of this process, you're going to need to reinstall Athena.  Therefore, you need an Athena CD handy, or you can download it by going to http://www.alamode.com/getathenainfo/athenainfo.aspx
  • If you have a high speed connection, we strongly recommend downloading the installation instead of using a potentially old CD.
  • You also may be prompted for an Athena Authorization code.  You can obtain one at the page listed above as well.
  • And lastly, be sure to download all your Aurora updates before proceeding, this ensures the smoothest transition back to Athena.
  • If you're reverting to Athena and need the XSite Order Manager plugins to work with AppraisalPort, Rels, Ameriquest, Fiserv, Cendant, Stars, etc, you'll need to install the XSite Order Manager. Of course, if you had it installed when you upgraded to Aurora in the first place, you can skip this step. If you need to install XSite Order Manager, download the installation file from http://www.alamode.com/xsom/downloads/.

Standalone Installations (Network instructions are below)

Once you've gathered everything...

  1. Make sure Aurora (or the Appraisal Desktop)  isn't running on your PC.
  2. Click Start, [All] Programs, WinTOTAL, Tech Support Assistant.
  3. After the Support Assistant opens, click Analyze System.  Then, click Next.

  4. In the middle of the screen under Update History, note what is listed for Program Directory.  (Usually, it's C:\WIN2000.) We'll need this later when it comes time to install the rollback utility.
  5. Now, we need to download the utility.  If you're reading this online, simply click here to get it.  Or, if you're reading these from a hard copy:
    • Click Back to get to the main Tech Support Assistant screen.   From there, click WinTOTAL Utilities and click Next.
    • From the right hand column, scroll down to item 16. Download a Tech File and double-click it.   In the box that appears, type rollback.exe and click OK.
  6. When asked if you want to Run or Save the file, click Run.   (If asked to confirm whether to run the file or not, choose Run again.)
  7. A window appears asking you where you want to unzip the file. Type the path you wrote down in step 4 in the box provided and click Unzip.
  8. After unzipping, the rollback wizard will start.  The wizard simply informs you to gather the information listed above (Athena installation file, XSite Order Manager installation file, etc.) and provides links to each. If you have not already downloaded these files, download them. Otherwise, keep clicking Next until you reach a screen that prompts you to Start the rollback process.
  9. Click Start to initiate the rollback and wait for the wizard to finish converting your files.   Depending on how many files you have changed since using Aurora, this might take a little while - a few seconds for each report.
  10. Once the process is complete, click Finished.  If the Tech Support Assistant is still running, close it, too.
  11. Now, simply reinstall Athena. If you're using a high speed connection, again, the preferred method of installation is to download the installation file from the web if you haven't done so already. This will reduce the amount of updating you will have to do once Athena is installed again.
  12. If you need the XSite Order Manager plugins to work with AppraisalPort, Rels, Ameriquest, Fiserv, Cendant, Stars, etc, you'll need to install the XSite Order Manager. If you had it installed when you upgraded to Aurora in the first place, you can skip this step. If you need to install XSite Order Manager, download the installation file from http://www.alamode.com/xsom/downloads/.

You're done. Just begin using Athena again as you did in the past.

Network Installations of WinTOTAL

Rolling back on a network is similar to the process for a standalone PC except at the end, you'll need to go to each workstation and run a utility to change their settings back to Athena.  Once you've gathered everything mentioned at the beginning of this document...

  1. Make sure every PC on your network has exited out of Aurora.
  2. From the server, click Start, [All] Programs, WinTOTAL, Tech Support Assistant.
  3. After the Support Assistant opens, click Analyze System.  Then, click Next.

  4. In the middle of the screen under Update History, note what is listed for Program Directory.  (On a network, it will be something like G:\WIN2000.) We'll need this later when it comes time to install the rollback utility.
  1. When the file has finished downloading, Windows will ask you whether you want to Run or Save the file. Choose Run.  If asked to verify that you want to run the file, click Run again.
  2. A window appears asking you where you want to unzip the file. Type the path you wrote down in step 4 in the box provided and click Unzip.
  4. Click Start to initiate the rollback and wait for the wizard to finish converting your files.   Depending on how many files you have changed since using Aurora, this might take a little while - a few seconds for each report.
  5. Once the process is complete, click Finished.   If the Tech Support Assistant is still running, close it, too.
  6. Now, reinstall Athena. If you're using a high speed connection, again, the preferred method of installation is to download the installation file from the web if you haven't done so already. This will reduce the amount of updating you will have to do once Athena is installed again. For additional help installing Athena on your network, see support document 4715.
  7. From each workstation, browse to the path you've mapped to the WinTOTAL installation and go to the Utils directory.  From there, run AuroraToAthena.exe.  Do this on each workstation that needs to run Athena to complete the process of rolling back.
