Athena Rollback FAQ
Document 4997
Revised 5/20/2006 LD1

As we run across common questions people have before, during, or after reverting back to Athena, we'll post them here.

The Athena rollback process is quite new, so we haven't collected too many questions yet.  As we come up with new topics, we'll update this document.

Will I Need to Back Up my WinTOTAL Installation & Files Before Reverting?

While the process should be relatively seamless, it's always a good idea to back up your software and files before performing major changes on your computer. The likelihood is that the reversion process will go through without incident, but as with any installation/uninstallation process, there's always a slight possibility that a 3rd party program, like a firewall, might prevent WinTOTAL from completing some of the necessary steps during the reversion process. For more information about backing up your WinTOTAL software and files, see Moving WinTOTAL to a new PC.

How Long Will It Take to Roll Back to Athena?

There's no way to be sure exactly how long this process will take for you. The time it takes is entirely dependent on the number of report files you have, the size of your databases, and the speed of your computer. To ensure the smoothest transition, we recommend performing this process on a non-work day.

Will There Be Continued Support/Updates for Athena?

Yes. Athena support has been extended indefinitely. That includes Tech Support, new updates including new forms and upgrades as they're developed. You'll want to continue downloading updates as they become available. For more information about updating your Athena installation, see Tech Doc 4120

Can I Still Install Aurora Later if I Change my Mind?

Absolutely. The Aurora installation already has the ability to upgrade your files to Aurora format. And the Aurora-to-Athena rollback utility will even let you roll back to Athena again if you ever decide to. Migrating back and forth between the two is a seamless process.

What's Going to Happen to my Vault Files? Will the Rollback Affect Those?

Yes. Since the Aurora-to-Athena rollback utility reverts your report files back to Athena format as well, the files you still have in WinTOTAL will be reverted to Athena format and uploaded to the Vault again. Since they're already in the Vault, though, you won't be uploading duplicate copies of the file. The Vault will simply update the existing file with the changes made during the rollback process.

If you uploaded some of your WinTOTAL files to the Vault and then removed them from your hard drive to save space, you'll need to download those files again before running the rollback utility to ensure that they're converted back to Athena format as well.
