Note: Make sure you have closed WinTOTAL completely before re-installing or re-downloading updates.
We also recommend rebooting since faulty update installations are
often caused by something stuck in your computer's memory . If
you are on a network, make sure all users have closed WinTOTAL
completely. You may even want to shut down the rest of the
workstations just to be sure. |

Click Start, [All] Programs, WinTOTAL, Tech Support Assistant.
- On the Tech Support Assistant window, select Analyze System and click Next.
- Under the Update History heading, double-click the update number
you downloaded before you noticed a problem. Since you can
go back and reinstall updates from any point in the past, you
might even play it safe and go back a month or two.

- On the Re-install Updates screen, select Re-download one or more updates if you're using a high speed Internet connection. Otherwise, select Re-install any previously downloaded updates.
- Click OK next to continue.

- On the Run Update Wizard screen, click OK. The Tech Support Assistant window will close automatically.
- Once the updates have been successfully downloaded, click Close
to install the updates and follow any instructions that appear on
screen.
Now, go and try the function that was causing an
error before. If it works as intended, then our update
reinstallation was a success!
If you continue to receive the error message, the update file may not have been downloaded properly the first time.
In this case, which isn't very common, another troubleshooting tactic
is to remove the downloaded setup files from your system and try
re-downloading and reinstalling them. This is described next.
Renaming the Update File & Re-downloading Updates
If reinstalling or re-downloading your updates does not fix the problem, there may be a problem with the update file on your computer. In order to download a fresh copy of the update, you must first rename the existing update file. To do so...
- Click Start, Run and type %wt% into the provided box.

|
|
| |
 |
Note:
If you're using Windows Vista, simply type %wt% into the search bar and hit Enter on your keyboard. |
|

|
|
- Click OK.
- In the window that appears, find and double-click the plus the Modem folder.

- Then double-click the Upgrades folder inside the Modem folder. The update files will be displayed in the right pane.
- Athena update file names begin with upd and Aurora update file names begin with aur, followed by the update number, ending with .z_ (i.e. upd00##.z_ or aur00##.z_). Find and right-click the corrupt update file and click Rename. The file name will be highlighted; rename the file by changing the .z_ to .old (i.e. upd00##.old or aur00##.old).
- Close the WinTOTAL folder window.
- On the Launch Utilities window, click Back.
- On the Tech Support Assistant window, select Analyze System and click Next.
- Under the Update History heading, double-click the update number at which you received the error message.
- On the Re-install Updates window, select Re-download one or more updates and click OK.
- On the Run Update Wizard screen, click OK. The Tech Support Assistant window will close automatically.
- Once the updates have been successfully downloaded, click Close to install the updates.
