Google Sitemaps provide an easy way for you to submit all your URL's to the
Google index and get detailed reports about the visibility of your pages on
Google. With Google Sitemaps you can automatically keep Google informed of all
your web pages, and when you make changes to these pages, they automatically
help improve your coverage in the Google crawl. To enable Google Sitemaps...
- Hover your cursor over XSite in the toolbar at the top
and click Search Engine Tools in the toolbar that appears.
- Click the Google Sitemaps link in the SEM
Tools pane on the left.
- Write down the Sitemap URL listed in the box half way
down the page.
- Go to the http://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps.
- Log in using your Google Account Username and
Password or create a new free account to use with your XSite.
- In the screen that appears, click Add Site, type your web
address into the box that drops-down, and click Continue.
- Select HTML File as the Verification
Method in the verification screen.
- You will be given a verification file name similar to:
GOOGLEd24324134a2a.html. Copy and paste the verification file
name into the Verification File field in the Google Sitemaps
page of your XSite and click Save. Remember to leave your
Google account window open.
- Return to your Google account in the verification area and click
Verify at the bottom of the page.
- In the screen that appears, click Submit a Sitemap in the
Sitemaps section to the lower right.
- Then, click the Submit a Sitemap button at the top of the
screen and type the address you wrote down in step 3 box that drops-down.
- Click Submit Sitemap to complete the sitemap setup.
Your Google Sitemaps are now enabled. As you continue to edit the pages
on your site, Google automatically updates their information with the latest
content.
